The process of cell reproduction is essential to all life, and its modes of regulation are intricate and fascinating! In this course, we will become familiar with the events that take place during the eukaryotic cell cycle, and with the cell cycle machinery that regulates and drives these events to ensure faithful cell reproduction. We will conclude with a discussion of cell cycle checkpoints and the DNA damage response, and how loss of cell cycle control can play a role in cancer etiology. An essential component to this course is participation in the weekly journal-club style seminar, during which we will build a deeper understanding of cell cycle topics through critical analysis and discussion of the primary literature.
